On average, every 53 hours in the United States a law enforcement officer is killed. This happens in large metropolitan areas as well as rural communities.
Since 1791, over 19,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice while working as public servants to protect their neighborhoods.
Kansans lost one of our officers last year, when Atchison Police Sgt. David Enzbrenner was shot and killed.
The State of Kansas will honor Sgt. Enzbrenner’s sacrifice, and those of other fallen officers’, this week at the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony in Topeka.
During this time I think it’s appropriate for us – law enforcement and citizens – to remember those who have tragically given their lives in the line of duty to ensure we, our families, homes and businesses are safe and secure.
